For Nurses’ jobs in UK Which IELTS is preferred?


International English language Testing System (IELTS) tests the English competency of the applicants who wish to land on English speaking country like UK. This test ensures your capability to communicate well with UK citizens in order to serve your purpose whether of education or of any job.

In past, the UK govt. has entertained lots of talented medical staff due to high job shortage in NHS. Nursing profession is one of them. They can be appointed as assistant nurses, carers or nurses depending upon their skills and qualification.

In order to work in UK as a nursing professional you must be good in English Language. To test your English skills IELTS is a worldwide accepted test. It is required for visa approval and for registering yourself in the NMC.

NMC is (National Medical Council) is govt. body that tests the medical professional’s skills in order to make them eligible to practice in UK in the NHS. The applicants must fulfil the UK standards to get placed in UK.

So, read below to understand your exact need of IELTS type:



It is only for the visa purposes. If you want to apply as an assistant nurse or carer, UK do accepts IELTS VI only for visa processing. For it, A band score of 4-5 is required which is the minimum language requirement equivalent to the CEFR B1 level.

Academic IELTS - 


If you are a qualified nurse outside the UK and want to work in NHS, get registered with NMC you would need to pass the Academic IELTS.

Also you must score 6.5 in Writing and 7 in Reading, Speaking and Listening or OET at a score of C+ in Writing and B in Reading, Speaking and Listening.

If you qualify Academic IELTS, then any other English Test is not required. Also, please make sure that for nurses IELTS VI is not acceptable.

Note: The Academic version of IELTS as well as the IELTS UKVI is the exact tests in regards to content, format score and difficulty. Only difference that the IELTS test for UKVI is recognized from UK Home Office. UK Home Office to be used for work, study, and purpose of migration.
