1. FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO STUDY AND GET NHS DENTIST JOB IN UK.

 

At present all UK graduates apply with their medical degrees

► To get enrolled in Medical School- Nearly all schools need written test and interview, however each school has their own specific requirements.

► Get awarded with Medical Degree- By the end of the course, you will be awarded with the final degree depending on the university program.

► Get License- By the end of the program, one gets license as a proof of their degree completion. He may call as a dentist now.

► Get Register with General Dental Council (GDC)- In order to practice in UK, all dentists have to get register themselves with GDC. Otherwise, it is a criminal offence.

2. DENTISTS JOBS IN UK FOR OVERSEAS DENTISTS

 

Things vary according to their nationality depending on whether they are graduated in UK, EEA or outside UK. One can opt different routes to get them registered for dentist jobs in the UK. After you have gone through the following process then you can apply for registration with GDC.

♦ Fill Application Form: Dentists who are qualified outside EEA are required to fill the application by selecting “Apply to register”. It is advised that after completely reading the received application pack, fill all the documents and submit the form.

♦ Overseas Registration Exam (ORE): One who seek job in UK as a dentist may have to qualify overseas registration exam.

♦ English Proficiency Test: All overseas dentists are required to score at least up to a threshold level, as a must eligibility criterion to get job in UK as a dentist.

♦ Licence in dental surgery exam: As compared to ORE, LDS is a much better way to do register with GDC, simply for the fact that you earn an additional degree.

♦ Temporary Registration:- If the applicants are not eligible for full registration and have had the offer of a supervised post for training, teaching or research purposes, for a limited time, they can practise dentistry via Temporary Registration.

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR APPLICATION FORM

 

An applicant should make sure about his experience as per GCD expectations including proficiency in English. Clinical experience requirement- At least 1600 hours of clinical experience is required. The number of hours of this clinical experience will either be hours spent undertaking appropriate investigations and administering dental treatment during your dental degree, during post
qualification experience, or a combination of two.

ORE Part 1

The main objection of ORE is to assess candidates’ clinical practice knowledge. It consists of
two computer-based exam papers:

► Paper A covers clinically applied dental science and clinically applied human disease.
► Paper B covers aspects of clinical dentistry, including law and ethics and health and safety.

Each paper lasts three hours and is made up of multiple short answer. There are a maximum of 200 places available at each examination period. You must pass both papers in order to progress to ORE Part 2.

ORE Part 2

ORE Part 2 is designed for candidates to demonstrate practical clinical skills. It consists of 4 components. DM (Dental Manikin), OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination), DTP (Diagnostic and Treatment Planning Exercise, ME (Medical Emergencies).
For each examination period a maximum of 144 candidates are able to undertake the Part 2 exam. The current cost of the examination is £2,929 per candidate, payable at the time of booking.

CONTINUOUS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)

 

► It is the dentist's responsibility to keep their skills and knowledge up-to-date. This is a mandatory requirement for all dentists on the GDC register. Dentists must complete a minimum of 100 hours of CPD over a five-year cycle

► Temporary registrants must undertake at least 20 hours of CPD during each CPD year. You will be asked to declare your CPD statement upon completion of a year's worth of direction. This will be required before the next direction is granted. You must meet all other requirements as outlined in continuing professional development guidance.


TIME TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS

 

The Application form confirmation via mail is received within 5 days after the submission of form which is followed by 4 weeks to check the submitted application. The Council has a maximum of four months from receipt of a complete application to inform an applicant of its decision.

Note: It is an offence under section 39 of the Dentists Act 1984 (as amended) to use a DCP title without being registered with the GDC.

WHAT SALARY CAN I EXPECT?

 

Profits of dental practices varies greatly but in general you can earn around £50,000 to £110,000. Wholly private dentists can earn £140,000+. If you enter dental core training, instead of working in general practice, you will earn a salary of £37,935 to £48,075.
